The ultimate proof of craftmanship of WW-II tracked technology of the WW-II US War Industry
BAIV recently discovered a 155mm Gun Motor Carriage M40. Most probably the only survivor left in Europe in private hands!
The M40 was based on the Carriage of the M4A3 HVSS model and the successor of the M3 Lee based M12. Only 311 examples of this impressive unit have been produced by the Pressed Steel Car Company.
It was available in number by the time of the Korean War (1950-1953) where it provided very good service for ground forces. However, 2 pilot versions were shipped to Western Europe in February 1945! This shipment was part of the ‘Zebra Mission’ to evaluate new equipment being the T26E3 Pershing Heavy tank and the M40 under combat conditions!
This specific by BAIV discovered unit is one of the 4 units that have been adopted by the German Army in the fifties after it came back from the Korean war. During exercises at the famous German exercise area Grafenwöhr it got an engine fire in the mid-sixties. This ‘fatal’ accident luckily also resulted in its rescue as it was stored on a yard for over 45 years without it was ever touched.
BAIV is planning to restore this unit prior to the 80 Anniversary Events in 2024 and 2025.
Currently BAIV is looking for the new owner of this fantastic project. This creates the unique opportunity to experience its full restoration together with our team in addition to its purchase. So, if you want to make this dream come true, please contact us.
We promise you a unique adventure, a fantastic return on investment and our friendship.
